Western Pennsylvania Family Center

About WPFC:
Founded in 1985 the Western Pennsylvania Family Center is a private, non-profit organization. The Center's vision is to be the recognized and utilized regional source of information about Bowen theory, an innovative set of ideas about the evolution of humankind and human relationships, and to stimulate Western Pennsylvania Family Center actions which flow from these ideas. The Center's mission is to enhance the knowledge of those who work with families and other systems by being a resource for education, consultation, and research in basic principles of human functioning as contained primarily in Bowen theory. Bowen theory views family functioning over generations and the family as an integral part of all life. It tracks the family as a single unit that responds to internal and external events over time. Individuals are considered to be inseparable parts of the family as a whole, a family that is gradually evolving and changing, in contrast with the prevailing individual model in psychology and psychiatry that views problems as flaws or upsets within a person.

Seminars, courses, conferences, lectures and consultation provide learning opportunities for professionals and lay persons locally, across the country, and internationally. Courses and programs at the Western Pennsylvania Family Center focus on theory and its applications in personal, work and clinical settings and typically occur in small group settings.
The Western Pennsylvania Family Center has made considerable progress in developing new sources of financial support and in generating additional operating income.
