Description: This conference will include two videotaped clinical interviews with people who have been involved in Bowen theory based therapy for less than a year. One person had been in psychoanalysis for several years and reflects on the contrast between the theories and the therapies. The interview also illustrates the therapist's efforts to introduce systems ideas to someone well-schooled in individual theory. The other person had also been in psychodynamic psychotherapy for several years, but it foundered on transference-countertransference issues. The experience motivated her to seek out a new type of therapy (she chose the Bowen Center after reading its website), a decision that proved a refreshing change. The day will begin with a lecture on differentiation of self, examining the concept/process from an evolutionary perspective. (Originally scheduled for 2/13/2010 this event has been moved to 3/13/2010.)
