The curriculum is designed both for those new to the theory and for those who have been studying it for longer. Consistent with Bowen theory, the emphasis in the seminar is on self-learning through didactic presentations by faculty, personal reading and writing, accessing audio-visual resources, and applying the theory by studying ones own relationship systemfamily, workplace, or community. The Basic Seminar meets weekly for two terms, roughly from mid-September until early April. Each meeting consists of a lecture on major ideas, concepts, and applications of Bowen theory. These lectures are delivered by different WPFC faculty members and are followed each evening by student presentations of their personal efforts to apply the theory in their own family, work setting, and/or clinical relationships. These presentations and discussions are facilitated by a WPFC faculty member.

Description:
I have informally researched sixteen distinct areas (scientific inquiries) during the past forty years. All of the inquiries have been motivated primarily by a desire to determine if Bowen theory can enhance the understanding of the particular area of study. The areas are the following: my family of origin; early work on cancer and the unidisease; sociobiology; writing Family Evaluation; psoriasis; naked mole-rats, Bowen theory and evolutionary theory; psychopathy: the unabomber and Gary Gilmore; autism; sibling variation; schizophrenia; societal emotional process; unidisease updated; homosexuality; the process of differentiation; neuroscience; and final thoughts. I will present my primary conclusions resulting from the study of each of these areas. Touching on such a wide range of topics conveys something unique about Bowen theory and its applications. The day will include ample time for questions and discussion about each of the areas.

Registration:
Register in advance or at the door.
