Provides direct service providers with the foundational skills and competencies needed to get a good start in the job.
A Jump Start - Human Service Provider Training is a three-day course designed to provide direct service providers with the foundational skills and competencies needed to get a good start in the job. Participants learn the over-arching requirements that ensure early success regardless of agency, program or population served. This training is a supplement to agency new hire orientation procedures and training.
Course content is based upon the Human Services Provider competency profile. This profile identifies five core competencies comprised of the skills, abilities and behaviors demonstrated by exceptional performers within the agencies of the Western Pennsylvania Training Collaborative.
The course is offered one day a week every couple of weeks over a two-month period. By delivering the program this way, we attempt to minimize the impact of time-off the job and maximize on-the-job application of learning between classes. The course includes a pre- and post-competency assessment. This assessment allows the participants to better target their learning goals and gauge progress. Supervisory involvement is built in, using the weekly supervision meetings to follow-up and coach the individual on information learned in the course.
All newly hired direct human services providers, regardless of previous experience or education level.
Applying the concepts and skills learned in this three-day course, you will:
Enhance effectiveness in your role as Human Services Provider through understanding of the skills and requirements of the job.
